TinyBanner v1.5 - The Alternative to Yahoo Messenger's BIG Ad Banners Don't you wish there was a way to remove Yahoo Messenger's big ad banners and replace them with something a lot smaller? Something more useful to the Messenger user? Well that's where TinyBanner comes in. TinyBanner is a replacement slimline banner that frees up more window space for chatroom text. In the picture below you can see TinyBanner at the bottom of the chat room window where the large Yahoo ad banner usually is..
As you can see TinyBanner is a lot smaller than the usual Yahoo ad banner! There are two clickable links in the TinyBanner window. The link on the left tells you what version of TinyBanner you're using. If you click on this when in a chat room it will open a new browser window that displays the webpage you're now reading. This is to let you see if I've upgraded or changed anything to TinyBanner. Your chat session will not be disturbed or closed if you click on any of TinyBanner's links. The link on the right will show the Hidden / Secret Smileys and Codes for Messenger Version 8. If you click on this link TinyBanner will display a table of the secret smiley icons and their codes at the bottom of the chat window. The window will resize itself automatically to show the secret smiley table like in the image below.. ![]() USING THE SECRET SMILEY CODES.. There are three ways to enter the secret smiley codes into the chatroom text box: 1. Type them in directly -- or -- 2. Highlight the smiley code with your mouse then click and drag it into the chatroom text box -- or -- 3. Click on the secret smileys to put the codes into the smiley code box on the bottom left of the table. Highlight all the smiley codes in the smiley code box with your mouse. Click and drag them all into the chatroom text box. Up to ten smileys at a time can be dragged into the chatroom text box this way. The 'Clear The Smiley Code Box' button will clear all the smiley codes from the smiley code box. To return the window back to the slim TinyBanner click on the 'Return To TinyBanner' link. The window will resize back to the way it was in the previous picture. There are other windows in Messenger that get the same ad removal treatment - these are the Room List window, the View Webcam window and the Show Webcam window. These windows only contain the TinyBanner link in the banner space. At present I cannot find a way to bypass the big 10-second advert page that appears when you first enter the chat rooms. Switching over to TinyBanner So you want TinyBanner? Yes? Then read on! To replace the ad banners we need to tell Messenger to ignore the default Yahoo banners and use TinyBanner instead. We do this by entering information into Messenger's section of the Windows Registry. Don't worry if you don't know what the Windows Registry is as the I've prepared a very small registry file for you that will enter this information automatically with a few clicks of a mouse. Please note that TinyBanner itself is not downloaded to your PC. There are no program files installed or executable files to run. TinyBanner itself is stored here at Sector 101.
